The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has foiled another attempt by drug traffickers to smuggle illicit substances abroad after operatives intercepted a shipment of tramadol pills cleverly concealed inside black soap containers destined for the United Kingdom.
The agency disclosed the seizure in its latest Narco Trend update released on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, via his official X account.
According to the NDLEA, the interception was made by its officers in Lagos during a routine anti-narcotics operation, exposing what appeared to be a carefully planned attempt to disguise the prohibited drugs as ordinary personal care products.
The agency noted that the traffickers had buried the tramadol tablets inside containers of black soap, hoping the concealment would evade security checks before the shipment left Nigeria.
However, NDLEA operatives detected the hidden drugs before the consignment could be exported.
Reacting to the discovery, Babafemi used the incident to renew the agency’s warning to Nigerians about accepting parcels, luggage or packages from friends, relatives or acquaintances without first verifying their contents.
He stressed that many unsuspecting individuals have found themselves facing serious legal consequences after unknowingly transporting illicit drugs for criminal syndicates.
“It’s difficult not to continue to warn people that they should avoid accepting any parcel or luggage from anyone,” Babafemi wrote.
Explaining the latest seizure, he added: “Why? Here are pills of tramadol buried in black soap containers to get them to the UK, but the concealment was discovered by NDLEA officers in Lagos.”

The interception highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods adopted by drug trafficking networks, many of which now disguise narcotics inside everyday household items in an effort to beat airport and cargo screening systems.
The NDLEA has repeatedly warned that criminal syndicates are constantly changing their concealment techniques, making it even more important for members of the public to remain vigilant.
The agency reiterated that anyone carrying parcels without knowing exactly what they contain risks being implicated in international drug trafficking offences, which often attract severe penalties in Nigeria and abroad.
The latest seizure forms part of the NDLEA’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking syndicates and efforts to prevent illicit substances from leaving the country through airports, seaports and courier services.
