NDC Closes Presidential Form Sales as Peter Obi Emerges Sole Aspirant

ABUJA — The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has closed the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, with indications that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi was the only aspirant to obtain the forms.

Party sources disclosed that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was the sole contender as the deadline for presidential form sales expired.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC announced that while presidential form sales had officially closed, the deadline for collecting Expression of Interest Forms for other elective positions had been extended by one week.

According to the statement, aspirants seeking tickets for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly seats now have until midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026, to obtain the forms.

The party said screening of aspirants who have purchased and completed the forms will begin on Tuesday, May 19, and end on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

It added that the collection and return of Nomination Forms for aspirants who scale through the screening process would run from May 20 to May 26.

The NDC warned that no further extension would be granted and urged all aspirants to comply strictly with the timetable and guidelines issued by the party.

Aspirants were also directed to appear for screening and pre-qualification interviews at designated venues nationwide with required documents, including educational certificates, birth certificates or declarations of age, passport photographs, voter cards, NDC membership cards and curriculum vitae. The party said all submitted documents must be provided in six copies.

According to the statement, the screening process will consider the wishes of the electorate, local peculiarities, competence, capacity and character of aspirants. The Screening Committee was also instructed to take into account the party’s affirmative action policy for women, youths and persons living with disabilities.

The development comes shortly after Obi’s reported defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, strengthening expectations that he could emerge as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
