The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) is set to inaugurate Abimbola Olashore as its 19th president on November 24, with discussions expected to centre on Africa’s competitiveness in global trade and policy reform.
The event, to be held at Eko Hotels and Suites, is billed “Unlocking Africa’s Future: Trade as the Engine of Economic Competitiveness.” It will feature former Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, as chairman of the day, and Benedict Oramah, former president of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), as guest speaker.
Tajudeen Ahmed, chairman of the programme committee at NBCC, said the event would address ongoing discussions around the realities shaping Africa’s trade position.

“The inauguration dinner is not just ceremonial. It is an opportunity to bring thematic discussions to our members and partners on issues central to Nigeria’s economic health,” Ahmed said at a pre-event press briefing.
He noted that the chamber remains focused on promoting bilateral trade between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, which he estimated to be about £7 billion. He added that NBCC continues to serve as a nonpartisan advocate for business and policy reform.
“We are apolitical. Our focus is to advance the cause of our members and strengthen trade between both countries,” he said.
Founded in 1977, the NBCC operates through over 20 sectoral groups spanning energy, agriculture, finance, logistics, and education. It has evolved into a key advocacy body shaping bilateral business relations between Nigeria and the UK.
The inauguration dinner will also feature the decoration of new patrons and a panel session on trade competitiveness across African markets.
