NAN-NUJ honours retired editors

Staff members of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday showered encomiums on three retired editorial personnel.

The celebrators in

cluded Mr Adeleye Ajayi, a retired Deputy Editor-in-Chief (DEIC) and former Head of Lagos Operations; Ms Chidinma Agu and Ms Nkiru Ifeajuna, both retired Assistant Editors-in-Chief.

Ajayi is the current Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),Lagos State Council.

They were honoured for their professionalism, discipline and high productivity during their years of service.

The Acting Head of Lagos Operations, Mrs Ifeayinwa Omowole, praised their dedication and contributions to the agency’s development, noting that they had served with professionalism, passion and commitment to NAN’s mission.

Also, Mr Kevin Okunzuwa, a DEIC, remarked that the retirees’ legacy would continue to inspire other staff members.

He said their contributions to the agency’s administration could not be overstated and added that they had been instrumental in driving its success.

He further urged staff to imbibe the virtues of discipline, focus and passion for their work.

In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of the NUJ, Lagos Council, Mr Philip Nwosu, commended Ajayi’s inclusive leadership style, describing him as a great administrator who managed to keep the NUJ united in spite of various challenges.

He stated that the union remained proud of Ajayi and prayed for greater success for him in retirement.

Responding on behalf of the celebrators, the retirees expressed gratitude for the support they received throughout their service years.

Ajayi encouraged staff to always put in their best, saying that hard work would help them leave behind a worthy legacy.

Agu advised staff to begin preparing for retirement early to enable them enjoy its benefits, and added that prayer was essential for overcoming life’s challenges.

In his comments, the Chairman of the NUJ, NAN Chapel, Mr Yusuf Yunus, appreciated members for their support to his leadership as well as to Ajayi’s.

He said Ajayi had fought great battles in journalism and described him as a good man who stood for the truth.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
