Naira depreciates to N1,410/$ in parallel market

The naira depreciated to N1,410 per dollar in the parallel market on Thursday, down from N1,405 per dollar on Wednesday.

Similarly, the local currency weakened in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), trading at N1,365.5 per dollar.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the indicative exchange rate rose to N1,365.5 per dollar from N1,361.5 per dollar recorded on Wednesday, indicating a N4 depreciation for the naira.

As a result, the gap between the parallel market and the official market widened to N44.5 per dollar, up from N43.5 per dollar the previous day.

Meanwhile, interbank turnover at the NFEM declined by 28.8 percent to N69.92 million, compared to N54.3 million recorded on Wednesday.
