The Nigerian military has recorded significant successes in its operations against terrorists in the North-East following the killing of a top ISWAP commander and the neutralisation of several insurgents.
This was disclosed by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
Uba said, “Intelligence has confirmed the killing of JULAIBIB, a top ISWAP commander operating within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle, during an encounter around Kimba in Damboa Local Government Area on January 30, 2026.”
He said the incident disrupted insurgent activities in the area.
“The elimination of the terrorist leader has thrown ISWAP elements into disarray and weakened their operational capability,” he said.
Uba explained that troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, ambushed terrorists between Ngazalgana and Lamusheri.
“Our troops engaged the terrorists with effective firepower, neutralising three insurgents and recovering two AK-47 rifles,” he stated.
He added that troops also engaged BH/ISWAP fighters at Tsokorok in Gwoza, killing one insurgent and recovering two motorcycles.
In Adamawa State, Uba said troops foiled an armed robbery attempt in Mubi North.
“Two suspects were arrested and several items were recovered,” he said.
He further disclosed that earlier operations led to the rescue of an abducted woman and recovery of weapons.
Uba assured residents of continued military operations.
“We remain committed to protecting lives and property and restoring lasting peace across the North-East,” he said.
