Mexico finally accepts Reno Omokri as Nigeria’s Ambassador

The Government of Mexico has formally accepted the appointment of former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United Mexican States.

Omokri announced the development on Wednesday in a post on his X account, saying the Chargé d’Affaires of the Mexican Embassy in Abuja, José Manuel Briseño Flores, delivered Mexico’s agrément to the Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Babagana Wakil.
The agrément signifies Mexico’s formal acceptance of Omokri as Nigeria’s ambassador to the country.

Omokri said he would serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Mexico, with concurrent accreditation to Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

“Today in Abuja, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United Mexican States in Abuja, Mr José Manuel Briseño Flores, delivered the agrément from the Government of the United Mexican States accepting me, Bemigho Reno Omokri, to serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Mexican States,” he wrote.
President Bola Tinubu had nominated Omokri in November 2025 alongside 68 other ambassadorial nominees, including former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode and former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
