Man, 30, Arraigned In Lagos For Being In Possession of Dummy Hand Grenade

A 30-year old man, Adebayo Olayinka, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly conspiring to commit felony by unlawfully being in possessing of a dummy hand grenade in the Agric area of Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that even though it cannot explode, carrying a dummy grenade in public can cause panic and fear because it looks much like a real one.

The suspect was apprehended by Police operatives led by SP Banti Adamu, Officer-in-Charge of Command Tactical Squad 1, State Headquarters, Ikeja.

According to charge with number MA/8/19/1/2026 filed by the Commissioner of Police, Olayinka and others now at large were accused of committing the offence on 21st March 2026 at about 1:00 p.m. in the Lagos Magisterial District.

Count one of the charge alleged that the defendants conspired to commit felony by unlawfully having in their possession one empty dummy 36 hand grenade, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2025.

Count two stated that Olayinka and his accomplices unlawfully possessed the dummy grenade without lawful authority in a manner likely to cause fear among members of the public.

After thorough investigation, the defendant was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, told the Court that the alleged offence contravened Section 51 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2025.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Then the prosecutor asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A.Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
