LG turns Korean National Day into innovation showcase in Abuja

LG Electronics placed innovation at the centre of celebrations last week as the company transformed the Korean National Day event in Abuja into a showcase of its most advanced technologies, reaffirming its growing role in Nigeria’s consumer electronics market.

Guests at the event were welcomed into an immersive tech experience featuring LG’s flagship OLED and NanoCell TVs, the SP9 Soundbar, the XL7S XBOOM speaker, the colour-changing MoodUP refrigerator, the space-efficient LG WashTower, and the energy-saving Air Tower Air Conditioner. Each product, displayed in a curated exhibition, underscored the brand’s focus on design, sustainability, and solutions tailored to Nigerian households.

Speaking at the event, Hyoung Sub Ji, managing director of LG Electronics Nigeria, said the innovation showcase symbolised the company’s long-term commitment to Nigeria.

“Today, we celebrate not just Korea’s heritage, but the boundless possibilities that arise when nations work together. Nigeria is a land of opportunity, and LG Electronics is committed to walking this journey side by side, empowering communities, inspiring innovation, and creating a brighter tomorrow,” he said.

The exhibition formed part of the broader celebrations marking Korean National Day, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. Beyond the cultural performances and diplomatic formalities, the event highlighted the growing synergy between Korea and Nigeria, a relationship strengthened by shared aspirations in technology, education, and economic development.

For LG Electronics, the occasion served as another opportunity to reflect on decades of partnership with Nigeria, from introducing premium home appliances to supporting local initiatives and building consumer trust across the country.

Tak Namgung, charge d’affaires of the Republic of Korea to Nigeria, said the celebration also marked 45 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“This year marks 45 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and Nigeria. Over the past decade, our partnership has grown stronger and more diverse. Looking ahead, Korea will continue to work closely with Nigeria to create new opportunities, from trade and technology to culture and education. The embassy will keep serving as a bridge for that motivation,” he said.

He noted that Korea’s journey from one of the world’s poorest countries to a dynamic, innovation-driven economy reflects values that both nations share: resilience, ambition, and belief in collaboration.
