LASTMA fires five officers, demotes nine over misconduct

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has sacked 19 of its officers for various acts of misconduct recorded in 2025.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed on Thursday that the disciplinary actions, approved by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, led to the dismissal of five officers, demotion of nine, and the issuance of severe warning letters to the remaining personnel.

Bakare-Oki said the authority has strengthened its internal monitoring system to curb misconduct among officers deployed on Lagos roads.

“We have improved our surveillance unit, with officers moving out daily in plain clothes, like mystery shoppers, to identify colleagues who operate against laid-down guidelines,” he explained.

The LASTMA boss added that complaints from the public are taken seriously, and all reports of misconduct are thoroughly investigated before disciplinary measures are applied.

“Whenever our officers are reported and found wanting, they are always penalised. We ensure due diligence in establishing the truth,” he said.

Bakare-Oki reiterated the authority’s commitment to improving traffic management across Lagos, ensuring the free flow of vehicles, and facilitating the seamless movement of people and goods across the state.
