Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court, Ikeja, has convicted and sentenced Remilekun Temitope Balogun‑Okedeyi to one year imprisonment for impersonating an official of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in a visa‑related fraud scheme.
The judgment, delivered on 14 April 2026, followed her prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The case stemmed from a petition by the British Deputy High Commission, which raised concerns about fraudulent practices linked to international travel documentation.
Investigations revealed that the defendant falsely presented herself as a NAFDAC official to lend credibility to a visa racketeering operation. During trial, the ICPC prosecution team, led by Yvonne William‑Mbata, tendered evidence showing deliberate misrepresentation and personal benefit from the scheme.
Balogun‑Okedeyi pleaded guilty to the amended charge, expediting proceedings. A prosecution witness, Mr Onyema, detailed how the fraudulent network operated and the role of the impersonation in deceiving authorities.
Represented by Mrs Grace Adenubi of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, the defendant was sentenced to one year imprisonment, with an option of a ₦500,000 fine. Justice Dada further ordered community service within the court premises and directed the convict to enter into a bond of good behaviour.
