The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic diversion advisory ahead of the Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” Cycling Race, set to take place on Sunday, January 11, from 5 am to 2 pm.
The announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement released on Saturday.
Osiyemi explained that the 170-kilometre cycling competition, organised by the Dynastar Sport and Education Foundation, will follow two distinct routes.
He outlined the first course, saying, “70km Route: Starting point at Eko Atlantic, through Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Sangotedo, and back to Eko Atlantic, the finishing point.”
Similarly, he described the longer race path: “170km Route: Starting point at Eko Atlantic, through Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Sangotedo, Epe T-Junction, Ita Marun Junction, Poka-Araga Road, Oke Osho Junction, Temu Road, Epe T-Junction, and back to Eko Atlantic, the finishing point.
“For traffic management, all adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections on the race routes will be regulated by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other security agencies to prevent unauthorised access,” he said.
Osiyemi added that while affected corridors would not be completely closed, motorists are expected to cooperate with traffic officials, remain patient and comply with guidance.
“These measures are in place to ensure the safety of both participants and road users during the event,” he noted.
The Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” is a mass participation cycling challenge covering 170 kilometres.
According to the state government, the competition is aimed at positioning Lagos as a hub for sports tourism, healthy living and sustainable transportation — showcasing the region’s coastal landscapes, infrastructure and cultural vibrancy.
