The Kano State Government has confirmed that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, will lead the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebrations.
The decision, approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, comes amid security concerns following intelligence reports that some individuals may attempt to disrupt the Sallah festivities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the government remains committed to preserving cultural traditions while prioritising public safety.
“The Kano State Government remains committed to preserving the rich cultural heritage of our people, particularly the revered Sallah Durbar. However, we will not compromise on the peace, security, and stability of the state,” the statement read.
According to the government, the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be led by Emir Sanusi, starting from Kofar Mata Eid Ground, passing through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and ending at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.
However, some traditional activities have been adjusted due to security considerations. Hawan Nasarawa will hold in a modified format without horseback displays, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended temporarily.
The government also directed all security agencies to heighten surveillance and ensure strict compliance with safety measures before, during, and after the celebrations.
Residents were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative, while avoiding the spread of unverified information that could incite panic.
The state government expressed confidence that the measures in place would ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration, extending Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims across the state.
The development comes a day after Emir Sanusi II hosted senior government officials for Iftar at his palace and held a private meeting with a delegation representing Governor Yusuf.
