JUST IN: Tinubu approves posting of ambassadors to 65 countries

President Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions, including 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career envoys.

The announcement was made on Friday in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.

According to the statement, 34 non-career and 31 career ambassadors have been posted to diplomatic missions across the world.

Among the prominent non-career appointees, former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau was posted to Beijing, China, while Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Other notable postings include senator Ita Enang to South Africa, former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, former health minister Isaac Adewole to Canada, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Enugu State governor was posted to Athens, Greece, while Senator Grace Bent will serve in Lomé, Togo.

In other postings, Aminu Dalhatu was named high commissioner to the United Kingdom, while Ayodele Oke, former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency will serve in France.

The statement noted that the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for Dalhatu and from France for Oke.

“The Ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the other 62 designated envoys to all the countries concerned, including a request for their agréments in line with standard diplomatic practice,” Onanuga stated.

President Tinubu also directed the ministry to commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate before they assume duty in their respective countries.

This newspaper reports that the 65 nominees were earlier confirmed by the senate of Nigeria in December 2025 following their screening by the committee on foreign affairs.
