JUST IN: Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi named Africa Player of the Year

Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi has been crowned the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year.

The 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender received the prestigious honour at the CAF Awards gala held on Wednesday night in Rabat, Morocco.

Hakimi beat Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah to win Africa’s top individual football prize, becoming the first Moroccan to claim the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.

Osimhen won the award in 2023, while Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman claimed it in 2024.

Hakimi played a pivotal role in PSG’s successful 2024/2025 campaign, helping the French champions secure the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.

On the women’s side, Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak won the CAF Women’s Player of the Year, beating Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade, who captained the Super Falcons to their record 10th WAFCON title and won the tournament’s Best Player award.

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie won the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the third consecutive time, while the Super Falcons were named the Women’s National Team of the Year after their dominant outing at WAFCON 2024.
