The Federal Government has filed criminal charges against three suspected terrorists over their alleged involvement in the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The suspects — Abdulrazak Umar, also known as Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid; Yunusa Musa, also known as Yunusa bin Musa; and Shamsu Adamu Sani, popularly known as Abu Itisar — were charged before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to the charge sheet, the defendants are facing a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism, kidnapping, concealment of terrorist activities, incitement, and illegal mining.
The Federal Government alleged that the accused persons participated in activities linked to the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that sparked widespread concern over insecurity in Oyo State.
Prosecutors further accused the suspects of providing support to terrorist operations, concealing information about terrorist activities, and engaging in illegal mining, which authorities believe was used to finance criminal and terrorist operations.
The charges form part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to prosecute individuals involved in terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the country.
The case is expected to proceed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the prosecution will present evidence to support the allegations against the defendants.
If convicted, the suspects could face severe penalties under Nigeria’s terrorism and criminal laws.
