Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna state governor on Wednesday appeared before the federal high court in Kaduna for the continuation of hearing on his bail application.
El-Rufai arrived at the court premises at about 9:00 a.m. and alighted from his vehicle shortly after, drawing the attention of security operatives and a small number of observers stationed around the complex.
The resumed hearing comes after Tuesday’s session was disrupted by legal exchanges between the defence and prosecution teams.
During the proceedings, the defence had filed a motion requesting Justice Rilwan Aikawa, the presiding judge to recuse himself from the case over alleged bias and a pending petition.
However, in a swift reversal, the defence subsequently filed another application seeking to withdraw the earlier request, a move that led to further arguments in court and stalled the hearing of the bail application.
The situation was further complicated when the prosecution submitted a counter-affidavit opposing the bail request, leaving the defence with limited time to respond to the fresh filings.
In view of the developments, the court adjourned the matter to Wednesday to allow for continuation of proceedings.
Security remained tight within and around the court premises, with armed personnel deployed to maintain order. Access to the courtroom was also restricted, as journalists were barred from covering the proceedings directly.
