Nigerian social media commentator Daniel Regha has criticised Apostle Arome Osayi’s account of an alleged encounter with Jesus at a beach in Tanzania, questioning the preacher’s account of receiving supernatural powers.
In a previous report by Gistreel, Osayi claimed Jesus appeared to him and instructed him to send ₦5 million to a pastor for the power to raise the dead and reverse autism, which generated reactions online.
Reacting to the story, Regha questioned the nature of the encounter and argued that the account contradicts the biblical passage in Acts 8:20, which recounts Simon the sorcerer attempting to obtain spiritual power from the apostles with money.
“Pastor Arome Osayi seems to be making content, because what he said about the Tanzania beach is ridiculous. Jesus asked you to send ₦5m to receive the powers? People who defend him know nothing about the Bible, and it’s sad how gullible Nigerians can be,” he tweeted.
Regha also focused on Osayi’s description of the encounter, particularly the preacher’s account of thinking about the powers he wanted before recalling what he had asked for.
He argued that the figure Osayi encountered at the beach could not have been Jesus, based on his interpretation of the biblical account.
“What he said contradicts what the Bible says in Acts 8 vs 20 when someone wanted to buy powers from the apostles to perform miracles. And if you notice in his story, he was thinking about the powers he wanted to ask the man he met at the beach, because that obviously isn’t Jesus,” he added.
Regha’s comments have added to the discussion surrounding Osayi’s account, with the preacher’s experience attracting reactions online.
