The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned CBT centres against charging candidates above the approved 2026 UTME fees.
The board urged candidates who paid more than the official charges to report such centres with credible evidence, warning that offenders would face sanctions.
JAMB, in a statement by Fabian Benjamin, its spokesperson on Friday said reports suggesting that the board increased registration fees were false and misleading.
It reads, “the board appeals to any candidate who has paid more than the officially approved fees to promptly report such centres with credible evidence.
“Such reports will enable the Board to investigate and take immediate disciplinary action against any erring centre found to be overcharging or engaging in sharp practices.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the approved registration fees remain as follows: Direct Entry (DE): ₦5,700; UTME Only (without Mock): ₦7,200; UTME with Mock: ₦8,700.”
The board noted that the sale of e-PINs for the 2026 UTME ended on Thursday, while registration for candidates who had purchased e-PINs will close on February 28.
JAMB disclosed that over 1.5 million candidates had registered as of February 17 and maintained that its registration fees had remained unchanged since 2019.
It also advised candidates and parents to rely only on official information and avoid individuals or centres seeking to exploit them through illegal charges.
