Jaiye Kuti’s new project Jayeola Monje: The Anniversary hits N24.5 million at Box office

Jayeola Monje: The Anniversary, the latest film from veteran actress and filmmaker Jaiye Kuti, has grossed N24.5 million at cinemas nationwide, extending its run on the big screen.

Released on May 22, 2026, the Yoruba-language drama is currently showing across major cinema chains in Nigeria. Directed by Oluwalesamson Adebayo and distributed by Nile Entertainment, the film was executive produced by Kuti alongside Fuji star Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and Moses Babatope.

Drawing heavily on Yoruba spirituality and folklore, the story follows Jayeola and her husband, played by Pasuma, as their 10th wedding anniversary takes an unexpected turn when they confront forces beyond the physical world. At the centre of the conflict is Alukoro, a grim reaper-like figure whose presence forces the couple into a struggle between love and death.

Since its release, the film has continued to attract attention among moviegoers, with discussions about its storyline, performances, and dramatic twists helping sustain interest. Performances by Kuti and Pasuma have been widely discussed by viewers, while Femi Adebayo has also drawn praise for a role that adds moments of humour to the otherwise intense narrative.

The latest figure reflects steady growth since the film’s release, rising from N18.8 million in early June to N20.7 million by June 9 before reaching its current milestone. Announcing the achievement on Monday, the producers said the film was “still counting” as screenings continue across the country.

The cast also features Ibrahim Yekini, Antar Laniyan, Adebayo Salami, Bimbo Oshin and Taaooma.

Its performance adds to the growing success of indigenous-language films at the Nigerian box office, where locally produced titles have continued to dominate audience attention in recent months.
