IPMAN backs Dangote, urges members to patronise PMS products

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has urged its members nationwide to patronise the Dangote Petroleum Refinery for the purchase of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), saying the refinery currently offers the most affordable prices in the market.

The association said the move would further stabilise fuel supply and reduce pump prices, especially as the refinery is set to commence free delivery of PMS to IPMAN filling stations nationwide from January 2026.

In a statement issued after a press conference in Abuja and signed by its National President, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi Shettima, IPMAN welcomed a recent agreement with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to supply PMS directly to registered IPMAN members.

IPMAN also commended the Chairman of the Dangote Refinery, Aliko Dangote, for supporting the Federal Government through consistent reductions in petrol prices.

According to Shettima, IPMAN controls over 80 percent of Nigeria’s PMS retail market and plays a dominant role in the downstream supply chain.

“The association has the highest percentage of the supply chain of the PMS downstream sector, controlling over 80 percent of the PMS retail market. We therefore declare that there will be no gap or scarcity in PMS supply to Nigerians,” he said.

Shettima said IPMAN members were excited by the agreement with the Dangote Refinery, which includes free nationwide delivery of PMS beginning in January 2026.

“This will certainly lead to a further decrease in the pump price of PMS at our filling stations. Therefore, I am calling on all IPMAN members nationwide to prioritise patronising the Dangote Refinery in their purchase of PMS products, as they already offer the best affordable price for all marketers today,” he added.

The IPMAN president reaffirmed the association’s support for the Federal Government’s oil and gas reforms, noting that IPMAN has consistently advocated stronger cooperation across all levels of governance in the sector.

“The focus of the Dangote–IPMAN partnership has always been geared towards making life better for Nigerians. This blossoming partnership would not have been possible without the pragmatic leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his sound judgment in readjusting the leadership of the NMDPRA and the NUPRC,” Shettima said.

He stressed that IPMAN’s long-standing position remains the deepening of domestic refining capacity to eliminate petroleum product imports.

“Continuous import is not an acceptable parallel business model, because reckless issuance of import licences distorts market dynamics, drains foreign exchange, entrenches poverty, destroys jobs, and scares away potential investors,” he added.

IPMAN congratulated the newly appointed leadership of the petroleum regulatory agencies and reminded them of outstanding bridging claims owed to its members, estimated at over ₦190 billion.

“We specifically call on the new leadership of the NMDPRA to immediately make this debt a serious concern as he assumes office,” the statement said.
