Institute of Security Nigeria Visits Olowu Of Owu, Seeks Royal Blessing For 19th Annual Security Conference

The leadership of the Institute of Security Nigeria on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Ayokanmi Matemilola (Oluyalo Otileta VII) to express appreciation for royal support and to formally invite the monarch to the Institute’s 19th Annual International Security Conference scheduled for later this year.

Leading the delegation, the Deputy President and Chief Executive of the Institute, Barrister Adebayo Akinade, DFISN, described the visit as one of honour and strategic engagement, noting that traditional institutions remain critical partners in Nigeria’s security architecture.

Accompanying him were Dr. Ade Abolurin, OFR, DFISN, First Vice President of the Institute and former Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; Professor Abraham A. Osinubi, DFISN, Distinguished Fellow of the Institute and Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos; and Dr. Feyisayo Amos Orukotan, FISN, a respected member of the Institute’s Faculty and Teaching Team and a renowned security expert.

Speaking at the palace, Barrister Akinade said the delegation came on two counts: appreciation and invitation.

“First, to appreciate you. At the Institute’s 18th Annual International Security Conference held last year, we were privileged to confer on Your Royal Majesty the honour of Distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Security Nigeria, DFISN. We sincerely thank Kabiyesi for accepting this recognition,” he said.

According to him, the Olowu’s acceptance of the honour carries deep significance beyond the palace. “It affirms the vital role that traditional institutions play in promoting national security, peace, and social harmony across Nigeria. As custodians of culture and community leadership, royal fathers remain central to building safe and stable societies. By identifying with our Institute, Kabiyesi has further strengthened the bridge between the throne and the security profession,” Akinade stated.

The second purpose of the visit, he said, was to brief the monarch and extend a formal invitation.

“The Institute of Security Nigeria will be hosting its 19th Annual International Security Conference later this year. This conference remains our flagship platform for dialogue, learning, and strategic engagement on contemporary security issues,” he explained.

He noted that the 19th edition will focus on emerging and priority areas including tourism security, protection of cultural heritage, safety and security at mega events, VIP protection, and intelligence-led security practice.

He further stated that the conference will assemble policymakers, security experts, academics, and private sector players.
