Terrorists on Tuesday attacked travellers along the Okoloke–Isanlu Esa road in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing two people and abducting at least five others in a fresh wave of insecurity in the area.
According to community sources, the heavily armed assailants ambushed commuters on the road, leaving two victims dead at the scene while taking several others to an unknown destination. Some residents also reported that a number of persons were still unaccounted for after the attack.
A community source said families had begun searching for missing relatives, adding that the incident caused panic among residents and travellers using the route. The source noted that at least five people were confirmed kidnapped, while efforts were ongoing to determine the whereabouts of others.
The Okoloke–Isanlu Esa road serves as a key link between communities in Yagba West, an area that has witnessed repeated cases of kidnapping and attacks by armed groups operating in nearby forests. Residents have repeatedly expressed concerns over the worsening security situation along the corridor.
Security agencies were reportedly alerted and had begun mobilising to the area as of the time of the report, although details of any rescue operation remained unclear. The latest attack has renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect lives and property across affected communities in Kogi State.
