The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral graphic claiming it fixed March 26 as the deadline for public officials seeking elective positions to resign.
In a statement issued on Friday, the electoral body said the information did not originate from the commission and urged the public to disregard it.
It reads, “the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission has been drawn to a graphic currently circulating online claiming that the commission has announced March 26 as the deadline for government officials seeking election to resign.
“The Commission wishes to state clearly that the information is false and did not emanate from INEC.”
INEC described the circulating notice as fake and misleading, warning members of the public, media organisations and political stakeholders not to rely on the information.
The commission further advised Nigerians to obtain electoral information only through its verified communication channels, including its official website, social media platforms and authorised press releases.
INEC also cautioned citizens against sharing unverified election-related information capable of misleading the public, reiterating its commitment to providing accurate and transparent information on electoral matters.
