Hundeyin’s removal: Five police officers battle for force spokesperson role

Five officers of the Nigeria police force are reportedly competing for the position of Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) following the removal of ACP Benjamin Hundeyin from the role.

Findings showed that several senior police public relations officers are currently lobbying and being tipped to emerge as the new image maker of the force after Hundeyin’s exit.

Among the leading contenders are SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson of the federal capital territory police command and Bright Edafe, the public relations officer of the Delta State Police Command.

Sources within the police hierarchy also disclosed that DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, former force public relations officer is being mentioned in some quarters, while spokespersons from Lagos and Enugu commands are also reportedly in contention.

Earlier on Thursday, Olatunji Disu, the inspector-general of police was reported to have removed Hundeyin from the position barely six months after he assumed office.

Hundeyin had been appointed by IGP Kayode Egbetokun, former IGP, but his tenure ended shortly after the appointment of the new police chief.

The former Force PRO, a native of Badagry in Lagos State, holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from University of Ibadan.

Before his appointment as the force spokesperson, Hundeyin served as the police public relations officer in Lagos State and at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.
