Humanitarian Ministry Bids Emotional Farewell to Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction yesterday bid farewell to its outgoing Minister of State, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, celebrating a tenure marked by compassion, integrity, and transformative leadership.

At the farewell ceremony in Abuja, Permanent Secretary Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, representing the Honourable Minister Dr. Bernard M. Doro, described Dr. Sununu as “a pillar of strength” whose leadership significantly advanced humanitarian interventions and strengthened institutional frameworks.

Goodwill messages came from key stakeholders, including Hon. Tijjani Aliyu, Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, who praised Dr. Sununu’s visionary leadership and collaboration with sister agencies. The Director-General of the National Senior Citizens Centre and representatives from the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities lauded his inclusive leadership.

The National Coordinator of NSIPA, Prof. Badamasi Lawal, described him as a dependable leader whose guidance strengthened programme implementation. Staff across the Ministry highlighted his humility, openness, and fatherly approach, which fostered an enabling work environment.

Dr. Sununu, visibly moved, thanked the Minister, management, and staff for their support. He urged staff to remain united and dedicated, stressing that “true leadership is rooted in selfless service and integrity.”

Attendees included senior Ministry officials, representatives from national agencies, local government leaders from Kebbi State, staff, friends, and well-wishers.
