How Dembele emerged 2025 Ballon d’Or winner

Ousmane Dembele has claimed the 2025 Ballon d’Or, marking the first time the Paris Saint-Germain forward has received the prestigious award.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a stellar season, scoring 35 goals and providing 14 assists across 53 appearances as PSG secured a historic treble — including their first-ever UEFA Champions League title.

The French international also finished joint top scorer in Ligue 1 with 21 goals and was named both Ligue 1 Player of the Year and Champions League Player of the Year.

Dembele edged out 18-year-old Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, who came second and received the Kopa Trophy for best young player. PSG midfielder Vitinha finished third, with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in fourth place. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer also made the top ten, finishing eighth.

Notably, last year’s winner, Manchester City’s Rodri, was absent from this year’s shortlist following an injury-plagued season.

An emotional Dembele, still recovering from injury, attended the Paris ceremony and lifted the award in tears.
