The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, has reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to strengthened security in Tidibale Community, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, according to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.
Osoba, who is the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, disclosed that the visit formed part of Major General Koughna’s first official engagements after assuming command.
He stated that the GOC carried out an on-the-spot assessment visit to the community following the return of residents who were earlier displaced due to threats from bandits.
According to the statement, Major General Koughna addressed residents during the visit and reassured them of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property.
“This visit is part of an initial assessment following the safe return of Tidibale residents who were threatened by bandits,” the GOC was quoted as saying.
Osoba said the Army Chief in the area emphasized that the restoration of peace would enable residents to resume normal socio-economic activities, particularly farming, without fear.
He disclosed that troops have now been stationed in Tidibale to maintain a strong and visible security presence.
According to the statement, the GOC assured the community that soldiers remain vigilant and ready to respond swiftly to any threat or emergency.
“He further assured that no part of Tidibale Community would be allowed to fall under the control of bandit groups,” Osoba stated.
The statement added that Major General Koughna called on residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Earlier, Osoba said the GOC received a detailed operational briefing at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Isa, from the Commanding Officer, 26 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Nasiru Mustapha.
The briefing, according to the statement, provided insights into the prevailing security situation and ongoing operations in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Sarkin Arewa of Tidibale, Alhaji Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the GOC for the visit.
“He said the visit has renewed the hope of the people and reaffirmed their confidence in the Nigerian Army’s ability to restore lasting peace,” Osoba noted.
The GOC assured that the Nigerian Army remains resolute in collaborating with local communities to achieve enduring peace and security in the North-West.
