The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers says it will resist any attempt to bring internal crises from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into its fold.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Darlington Nwuju, Rivers APC spokesperson, said that Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers State, remains the recognised leader of the APC in the state.
Nwuju said the party is determined to prevent any external influence from destabilising the Rivers government or the APC structure in the state.
He said the party would not align with or accommodate interests seeking to manufacture instability within the ruling party.
Tracing the origin of the political crisis in the state, Nwuju said the tensions began when the major actors were still members of the PDP in October 2023.
He said the APC would resist any attempt to transfer what he described as the “spirit” of the PDP crisis into the ruling party.
“Let me say this clearly for those who are in doubt about the resolve of the APC in Rivers state to ensure that the government of the day in Rivers is not destabilized,” Nwuju said.
“Then let them take this to the bank that we would not accept, we would not align, we will not also pander to the wishes of any external force, anywhere that will attempt to destabilize the government of Rivers state.”
Nwuju said the party’s position on Fubara’s leadership had already been made public.
“Like we clearly stated in our statement yesterday, that this governor is not just a member of the APC, but as it stands today, he is the leader of the APC in Rivers state,” he said.
“Now you would recall the series of drama, or the drama series that we’ve been treated to in Rivers state, and that was purely when they were members of the PDP, starting from October 13, 2023 when the drama began, we believe strongly that this should not dovetail into the APC.
“The spirit of PDP cannot be transferred into the APC. We are going to resist it. We reject it.”
Nwuju warned that any attempt to undermine the party or the governor’s leadership would be firmly opposed.
“And every Frankenstein monster that attempts to destabilize our party and the leadership of the governor of Rivers State will surely be resisted by every illegal means possible. This is not an emotional thing,” he concluded.
