FRSC team nabs ‘one chance’ suspects, recovers stolen phone in Ibadan

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded another operational success following the arrest of suspected members of a phone-theft and “one chance” syndicate along the Eleyele–Ojoo corridor of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The suspects were intercepted in the early hours of Monday, 15 June 2026, by an FRSC patrol team on routine patrol along the Babalegba–Eleyele–Ojoo route after officers observed a motorcycle rider pursuing a Nissan Micra (Reg. No. AJW 903XE).

A female passenger subsequently raised an alarm that her mobile phone had been stolen while inside the vehicle.

Acting swiftly, the patrol team stopped the vehicle and commenced preliminary interrogation. During the process, the driver, identified as Idowu Mukaila, claimed he could facilitate recovery of the phone.

Shortly thereafter, another individual arrived and produced the stolen device, raising further suspicion of an organised criminal operation.

The matter was immediately reported to the Command, and the suspects were escorted for further investigation. Officials of the Park Management System (PMS), Oyo State Drivers’ Union, later disclosed that both the vehicle and driver had been under surveillance following several complaints linking them to phone theft and “one chance” activities within the metropolis.

Following interrogation by the Sector Commander and Deputy Corps Commander Operations, the case was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Eleyele Division, for comprehensive investigation and possible prosecution.

The Corps noted that the incident underscores the critical role of FRSC patrol operatives in enhancing road safety and supporting security efforts through vigilance, rapid response and collaboration with relevant law enforcement agencies.

FRSC therefore urges members of the public to remain alert, report suspicious activities promptly and continue partnering with the Corps to make Nigerian roads safer and more secure for all.
