FirstBank unveils 500-seat premium viewing stand at Calabar Carnival 2025

First Bank of Nigeria Ltd. has signed on as a sponsor of the 2025 Carnival Calabar & Festival, introducing the event’s first private premium seating area as it deepens its support for Nigeria’s creative economy.

The lender said it will construct a 500-seat premium bleacher for the festival, offering what it described as a safer and more comfortable viewing experience for attendees at one of Africa’s largest street carnivals.

The sponsorship aligns with FirstBank’s First@Arts initiative, which supports Nigeria’s creative and cultural industries, according to Olayinka Ijabiyi, the bank’s acting group head of marketing and corporate communications.

He said the carnival reflects the institution’s long-standing commitment to platforms that promote cultural expression and national cohesion.

“For more than 131 years, we have supported initiatives that enable self-expression, social reflection and cultural exchange,” Ijabiyi said.

“Our investment in Carnival Calabar underscores our commitment to preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage while enhancing the experience for participants and spectators.”

FirstBank said the premium bleacher, described as the first of its kind at the festival, is aimed at elevating the carnival experience through exclusive seating and improved comfort.

Gabe Onah, chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Calabar Commission, said the partnership highlights the growing role of the private sector in supporting culture and tourism. “FirstBank’s involvement enhances the quality of the carnival and strengthens its appeal to a global audience,” he said.

Carnival Calabar & Festival 2025 is being marketed by Okhma Global Ltd., the event’s official marketer responsible for brand partnerships, promotions, and ticket sales.

The company has worked with the Cross River State government on the festival for more than a decade, helping to expand its commercial footprint and international visibility.
