First HoldCo Plc emerged as the most actively traded stock by value on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Monday after investors exchanged shares worth N7.90 billion.
Trading data showed that investors traded 61.71 million shares of First HoldCo valued at N7.90 billion, making it the highest-value transaction on the Exchange during the session.
Although Fortis Global Insurance Plc led the market by volume with 206.72 million shares, its transactions were valued at N415.70 million, significantly below First HoldCo’s turnover.
United Bank for Africa (UBA) ranked second by value with 89.63 million shares worth N3.97 billion followed by Access Holdings Plc, where 33.91 million shares valued at N925.44 million changed hands.
Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc completed the list of the five most actively traded equities with 26.87 million shares worth N204.19 million.
The strong trading activity in First HoldCo came on the same day the company disclosed that Calvados Global Services Limited, a company related to Chairman and significant shareholder Olufemi Otedola, acquired an additional 95,699,240 ordinary shares at N131.48 per share in a transaction valued at approximately N12.58 billion.
Monday’s trading also reinforced the banking sector’s dominance on the Exchange. Four of the five most actively traded stocks by value and volume were financial services companies.
The benchmark NGX All-Share Index declined 0.11 percent to close at 239,085.17 points, while equity market capitalisation fell to N154.40 trillion.
Despite the market’s decline, First HoldCo’s N7.90 billion turnover highlighted sustained liquidity in the stock and reaffirmed its position as one of the Nigerian Exchange’s most actively traded large-cap equities.
