The Federal Government has flagged off the distribution of Presidential Emergency Food and Nutrition items in Borno State to support vulnerable households affected by conflict and displacement.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, launched the programme on Thursday, at Ramat Square, Maiduguri.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the intervention forms part of a nationwide relief effort covering 10 northern states.
“Today’s intervention is a deliberate, coordinated effort to stabilise nutrition, protect lives, and restore hope,” Doro stated.
He listed the beneficiary states as Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi.
The Minister said the Federal Government had mobilised large quantities of rice, beans, millet, maize, oils, tom brown, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, salt, and essential medicines.
“This scale reflects the seriousness of our commitment to food security and humanitarian protection,” he added.
For Borno State, Doro disclosed that over 8,500 bags each of millet, rice, and maize were allocated, alongside other relief materials.
He commended residents for their resilience.
“To the people of Borno, I commend your strength and perseverance. This support represents sustenance, dignity, and renewed hope,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, assured that the process would be transparent and accountable.
Acting Governor Umar Kadafur thanked the Federal Government and pledged full cooperation.
“This intervention is a timely and compassionate response to the challenges faced by vulnerable households,” Kadafur stated.
He assured that the distribution would reach intended beneficiaries.
