The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has uncovered a suspected child trafficking operation allegedly operating under the guise of an orphanage home in the Saburi area of Abuja.
According to police authorities, the investigation was launched after residents of the community filed a petition on January 29, 2026, raising concerns over suspicious activities at the facility.
Acting on the complaint, the command said it initiated a discreet and thorough investigation into the matter.
Preliminary findings indicate that the alleged operation targeted families in rural communities by offering children access to education and better living conditions in urban areas. Authorities suspect that some of the children were subsequently transferred to other locations within the country.
Police said 21 out of 46 children linked to the operation have so far been rescued and are undergoing procedures for safe reunification with their families. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining children and apprehend individuals connected to the alleged network.
The command urged parents and guardians to exercise caution, warning that not all sponsorship or educational opportunities are legitimate. It commended the Saburi community for alerting authorities and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
“The safety and welfare of children remain a top priority,” the police statement read, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society.
Investigations into the case are continuing.
