FCT police arrest seven, recover arms, ammunition, foil kidnapping and ‘one chance’ robberies

The FCT Police Command has arrested seven suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, and stolen items in a series of operations targeting kidnappers, ammunition suppliers, homicide suspects, and ‘one chance’ robbers.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, announced this on Friday, while addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters.

CP Sanusi said the arrests were made possible through digital forensics, intelligence-led operations, and public cooperation.

Suspected kidnappers arrested, AK-47 recovered
The Command arrested three suspects featured in viral videos brandishing AK-47 rifles and walkie-talkies while dressed in military camouflage. The videos had circulated on social media, prompting CP Sanusi to order forensic analysis and immediate arrests.

Following digital tracking, operatives of the VCRU Sector 5 and Zuba Division, led by DPO CSP Ogu Caleb Ikechukwu, raided a hideout at Runji Village, Zuba, at about 3:22 a.m. on May 25, 2026. Arrested were Umar Babangida, 25; Adamu Yeti, 22; and Yahaya Idris, 24, all from Rijana, Kaduna State.

Police said the suspects obtained the rifles from their gang leader, “Esco,” who remains at large. Recovered exhibits include one AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of live ammunition, eight phones, two jackknives, power banks, and incriminating videos/photos of the suspects in military gear. Efforts are ongoing to arrest Esco and recover more firearms.

Kidnapping, culpable homicide suspects arrested in Benue
On May 2, 2026, Apo Division received a complaint that Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, 22, had been kidnapped since April 21.

Using digital reconstructive intelligence and collaboration with Benue State Police, operatives tracked and arrested Emmanuel Acha Leku, 32, a Cameroonian, and his girlfriend, Ms. Kazan Vincent, in Adikpo, Kwande LGA, Benue State.

Investigations revealed Leku lured Chukwuemeka to a mountainous area in Lokogoma and murdered him over a failed fraud deal. He then used the victim’s phone to demand N5 million ransom to disguise the killing as kidnapping.

The suspect fled to Benue but was arrested while planning to escape to Cameroon. Two phones, including the deceased’s, were recovered. The victim’s decomposing remains were traced to the crime scene and deposited at Sahad Hospital, Apo, for autopsy.

Wanted ammunition supplier for bandits arrested
Strategic intelligence operations led to the arrest of Yau Sule of Kachia LGA, Kaduna State, on June 2, 2026, along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. Wanted since 2023, he was found with 81 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted GPMG ammunition.

Yau Sule led police to arrest his sister, Maria Sule, wife of wanted bandit Buhari Shuaibu, who terrorizes communities in FCT, Kaduna, and Niger. Police said Maria was involved in supplying ammunition to her brother for sale to terrorists and bandits. Preliminary findings link them to a logistics network supporting bandit groups in the North Central region and FCT border areas.

One Chance’ robbers intercepted
On May 15, 2026, VCRU Sector operatives on patrol along Giri-Lugbe road rescued a lady crying for help after being robbed by suspected ‘one chance’ operators. A hot chase led to the interception of a blue Volkswagen Golf, SKK 567 AG, conveying Muhammed, 22, and Muhammed Saidu, 20.

Recovered from them were the victim’s laptop, iPhone, and laptop charger. Police also recovered two knives and scissors believed to be used in the robbery.

CP Sanusi commended officers for their professionalism and residents for providing intelligence. He urged FCT residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through emergency lines displayed by the Command.

“Through partnership and shared responsibility, we will continue to make the Federal Capital Territory safer for all,” he said.
