“Family could not take the risk, mechanic volunteers to deliver ₦30m ransom to kidnappers” — Man shares emotional story

A mechanic in Taraba State has drawn attention after reportedly risking his life to deliver a ₦30 million ransom for the release of a customer who had been kidnapped.

According to an account shared online, the victim’s abductors initially demanded ₦50 million. However, after the family sold some of his properties and vehicle, they were only able to raise ₦30 million.

The kidnappers later agreed to accept the reduced amount and instructed that the money be delivered to Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

They reportedly warned that only one person should bring the ransom and that any mistake could cost the victim his life.

Family struggles to find volunteer

The family faced a difficult challenge after raising the money, as no relative was willing to undertake the dangerous journey.

Although the victim’s son volunteered, he was considered too young to take such a risk.

As days passed without payment, the kidnappers reportedly threatened to kill the victim.

The situation changed when the man’s mechanic learned about the ordeal and offered to deliver the ransom. The incident occurred during Nigeria’s cashless policy period, when the kidnappers requested payment in Cameroonian currency.

The mechanic travelled to Karim Lamido and later trekked for nearly two hours after commercial motorcycle riders reportedly declined to take him to the location provided by the abductors.

Long journey ends with victim’s release

According to the account, armed men eventually met the mechanic and transported him deeper into a forested area where the ransom was verified.

The victim was not present at the location, but the kidnappers assured the mechanic that he would be released once the money was confirmed.

After the ransom was accepted, the abductors released the victim in Gombe State, returned his phone and allowed him to contact his family.

The mechanic later discovered that the kidnappers had deliberately directed him through a lengthy route while delivering the money, only to reveal a much shorter path back to town that took less than ten minutes.

The story has generated discussion online, particularly after it emerged that the mechanic’s wife was heavily pregnant at the time.

Many social media users described his actions as an extraordinary act of loyalty and courage, while others highlighted the dangers faced by communities affected by kidnapping across parts of Nigeria.
