The Security Adviser to the Kogi State Government, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), has debunked a viral social media report claiming that bandits invaded Kiri High School and kidnapped students on Wednesday morning.
The rumour, which originated from a Facebook post, alleged that armed bandits stormed Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area, and abducted students during the attack.
It further claimed that members of the Kiri Vigilante Group engaged the attackers and rescued all the supposedly abducted students, with the operation said to have resulted in the deaths of one vigilante member and a resident described as a Hausa man.
Reacting swiftly, Commander Omodara dismissed the report as false, stating that the state government is tracking those behind the spread of the misinformation. He expressed concern that individuals would deliberately circulate fabricated stories capable of causing panic, describing such acts as aiding criminal elements.
He urged the public to disregard the rumour, assuring that security agencies across Kogi State remain on high alert and are monitoring all areas to prevent any breach of peace.
