Nigeria’s Super Falconets have sent an early warning to their rivals at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in their final preparations for the tournament.
The Nigerian youngsters edged Poland’s U-20 women’s team on Friday, August 28, at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, with Mary Mamudu scoring the decisive goal just before the half-time whistle.
Mamudu broke the deadlock in the first minute of added time, striking in the 45th minute plus one to give the Falconets a deserved lead heading into the interval.
Despite Poland’s efforts to find a way back into the contest after the restart, Nigeria stood firm and protected their advantage until the final whistle.
The Super Falconets later confirmed the victory through their official X account, marking a positive start to their final preparations for the global tournament.
The encounter was the first of two scheduled warm-up matches for Nigeria before the World Cup officially gets underway.
The Falconets will have another opportunity to fine-tune their preparations when they face South Korea on September 1.
The friendly against Poland was particularly significant given that the European nation will host the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which is scheduled to run from August 31 to September 22.
For Nigeria, the victory provides an important confidence boost as the team prepares to face some of the world’s best young female footballers.
The Falconets have been drawn in Group F, where they will battle Spain, China PR and New Caledonia for a place in the knockout stages.

While Nigeria remain one of the most consistent teams in the history of the competition, the coveted trophy has continued to elude them.
