The Energy Commission of Nigeria has awarded a solar minigrid project worth N1 billion to the university under the Renewed Hope Solarization Agenda for Alternative Energy.
The provision and installation of the 0.5 megawatts (500 kilowatts) solar Minigrid is for the generation of power to improve the electricity supply in the campus.
The project whose completion period is three months is expected to commence soon.
It would be recalled that the Commission had recently approved 100 solar streetlights for the university of which 50 are ready for installation.
The Vice- Chancellor Professor Ahmad Mohammed Gumel expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Director-General of the Commission, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi for his kind gesture to the university, adding that the Commission is also ready to partner with the university on Renewable Energy Research.
