End of year break: Tinubu travels to Europe, UAE for sustainability summit

President Bola Tinubu has departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year break.

In a statement on Sunday, Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson to the president on information and strategy, said that the trip will extend from Europe to the United Arab Emirates for participation in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026.

Onanuga said the visit follows an invitation from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, to attend the summit scheduled for early January.

“The weeklong summit is an annual event that mobilises leaders from government, business, and society to chart the next era of sustainable development,” the statement reads.

“With the theme ‘The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go’, ADSW will connect ambition with action across innovation, finance, and people, showcasing how the world can move forward with confidence.”

Onanuga added that Tinubu is expected back in Nigeria after the conclusion of the summit.
