Emma Roberts‘ father has spoken up about his absence at his daughter’s intimate Idaho wedding.
Eric Roberts‘ absence at his daughter’s nuptials could not go unnoticed; however, it does not seem far-fetched, as they have a preexisting strained relationship. The dynamics surrounding the father-daughter duo have made waves in the media over the years.
Emma Roberts has reportedly tied the knot with her longtime lover and partner, Cody John. The wedding took place quietly in Idaho while the lovebirds were surrounded by friends and family.
Eric was noticeably absent at Emma’s wedding over the weekend in Idaho. When asked to comment on the fact that he did not fill the father of the bride shoes, the actor reiterated his unwavering love for his daughter irrespective of the status of their relationship.
“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” the actor said in his statement addressing missing his daughter’s wedding to US Weekly. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants,” Eric added.
According to earlier reports, the actress had family by her side during the ceremony. Her aunt, Julia Roberts, Eric’s younger sister, was spotted at a private Idaho residence where the wedding was held on Saturday. “The Dark Knight” star was seen leaving an L.A. based Crunch Gym a day after his daughter’s wedding.

Emma is one to keep her personal life out of the spotlight as much as possible. She previously expressed that she does not like having her relationships become a topic of public conversation.
“I never want to talk about relationships I’m in, or that are ending or have ended. It’s hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience,” she shared in a 2019 interview with Cosmopolitan. The actress also noted that the inability to have a private moment with people close to her due to the existence of social media saddens her.
Her relationship with John has been largely out of the spotlight, with few milestones making their way to social media. In August 2022, the couple became Instagram official, and by July 2024, Emma shared that John had popped the question.

While Emma and John are yet to make an official post or statement with details of their nuptials, sources confirmed that the ceremony took place on Saturday, July 25.
The pair reportedly said their vows at John’s family estate in Sun Valley, Idaho, with close relatives and friends in attendance. As reported by The Blast, the intimate guest list allowed the duo to have their private moment away from the Hollywood spotlight that has trailed Emma throughout her career.
Photos obtained by media outlets show the groom looking handsome in a custom espresso-colored Ferragamo suit, while the bride donned a one-shouldered ivory Monique Lhuillier dress.
Eric Roberts Previously Addressed His Fractured Relationship With Emma
Eric owned up to the part he played, which contributed to the way things are between him and his daughter. He admitted that when she was born, he was not in the right place emotionally to be a father. “I was a wash rag. I was not to be dependent on emotionally because I was a car wreck,” the veteran actor admitted.
The “King of Gypsies” actor struggled with substance abuse, which ultimately led ho him losing custody of Emma in her early years. Despite their strained relationship, Eric does not cease to express what a proud father he is. He often praises Emma’s work as an actress and speaks highly of her talents, as shared by The Blast.
While many describe the father-daughter relationship as “complicated,” Eric believes that narrative does not tell the full story. “It’s only complicated to outside eyes because they don’t get any of it, so they have their own take, whatever that is, and it’s not a straight line ’cause they aren’t really involved,” he said earlier this year.

Even though Emma walked in his footsteps to become an industry star, PEOPLE notes that besides the shared last name, Eric is not in any way credited with her success. Eric, on his own, has been in more than 700 TV shows, music videos, and films, some of which have earned him awards and accolades.
Being in the same industry, one would think Emma and Eric would build a connection over their shared profession. However, the actor disclosed that they never speak about work. “We have never discussed it since she was 9 years old,” he noted.
The pair have also not been photographed together since Emma was a child. The actress does not talk about her father in interviews nor post anything about him on social media, the way she does her mother, Kelly Cunningham.
