El-rufai to remain in custody as court adjourns bail hearing to April 14

A federal high court sitting in Kaduna has ordered that Nasir El-Rufai, a former Kaduna state governor remain in custody pending the hearing of his bail application, which has been adjourned to April 14.

Recall that Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, the presiding judge fixed the new date on Wednesday after hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution.

El-Rufai is facing a 10-count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), bordering on alleged conversion of public property and money laundering.

He had earlier pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The court subsequently directed that the former governor be remanded in ICPC custody until the next adjourned date.

El-Rufai arrived at the court premises at about 9:00 a.m. in a black Hilux vehicle, accompanied by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Dressed in a light brown riga and cap, he appeared calm as he walked into the courtroom.

Speaking with journalists after the proceedings, Ubong Akpan (SAN), one of his counsel confirmed the adjournment but noted that the lead counsel would brief the media later.
