Eid-el-Fitr: Fayemi urges peace, unity, reflection among Nigerians

By Sumaila Ogbaje

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and reflection as Muslims mark the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

Fayemi, who also served as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, made the call in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Head of his media office, Ahmad Sajoh.

He congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of Ramadan, commending their devotion, discipline and spiritual renewal through fasting, prayers and acts of charity.

According to him, Eid-el-Fitr presents an opportunity to reinforce values such as compassion, sacrifice, humility and love for humanity.

Fayemi urged Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, to reflect on the lessons of the season, stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.

“Eid-el-Fitr is not only a celebration of the end of Ramadan but also a reaffirmation of the virtues of self-restraint, generosity and faith in God. These are values that should guide our conduct as individuals and as a nation,” he said.

He called on citizens to shun all forms of division, violence and intolerance, noting that Nigeria’s progress depended on the collective resolve to live together in harmony.

Fayemi also encouraged Muslims to sustain the spirit of giving and compassion beyond the festive period, particularly towards the less privileged.

He wished the Muslim faithful a joyful and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, praying that the blessings of the season would bring hope, unity and prosperity to the country. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
