The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, August 19, arraigned two persons before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, for the alleged unlawful supply of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) access credentials.
The defendants, Gideon Bakpa Aghogho and Oscar Ebere Chukwuebuka, were arraigned alongside a third suspect, identified as Scott, who is currently at large.
They were brought before Justice F.N. Ogazi on an eight-count charge bordering on the unlawful supply of access credentials to a bank database.
The offences contravene Sections 27 and 28(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024.
One of the counts stated that the defendants, alongside Scott, conspired between July 24 and 26, in Lagos, to supply Aghogho’s access code to the FCMB system using a local administrative credential capable of granting access to the FCMB Virtual Center Platform.
Another count claimed that Aghogho, between April and May 2025 in Lagos, knowingly and without authority disclosed access credentials, including the bank’s server IP and domain credentials, to gain access to FCMB’s database in exchange for $15,000.
When the charges were read to them, Aghogho pleaded not guilty, while Chukwuebuka pleaded guilty.
Following Aghogho’s plea, prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, asked the court to fix a date for trial and remand him in a correctional facility.
In respect of Chukwuebuka, the prosecution sought to review the facts of the case following his guilty plea.
Justice Ogazi subsequently adjourned the matter until August 27, for review of the facts and other proceedings.
The judge also ordered that the defendants be remanded at a correctional centre.
