Edo Central Schools Resumption Postponed After Violent Protests

The Edo State Government has postponed the resumption of all public and private schools in the Edo Central Senatorial District for the second-term academic session.

The decision follows last week’s violent protest in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, which erupted in response to ongoing kidnappings in the community.

The protest left several people injured and resulted in the vandalization of the traditional ruler’s palace. Shops were looted, and commercial activities in Ekpoma were disrupted.

In a statement, Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, said the postponement will remain in effect until further notice.

Dr. Iyamu explained that the delay was necessary to address urgent issues and to improve the welfare of pupils.

“The new date of resumption will be duly communicated to the public in due course,” he said.

He urged parents, guardians, and all education stakeholders in Edo Central Senatorial District to take note of the development and comply accordingly.

The state government has not provided a specific timeline for when schools will reopen.

Authorities are expected to provide updates as the situation in Ekpoma stabilizes and safety measures for students are reinforced.

...ponement underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring the security and well-being of students in areas affected by unrest.
