In a recent interview with The Sun on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Samuel Kanu Uche, has warned that much of the insecurity in Nigeria is politically motivated.
He stated that during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, insecurity was widespread because some individuals wanted him out of office, violence and unrest, he explained, were used as tools to pressure the government and create chaos.
Dr. Uche added that similar tactics continue today and claimed that some people are bringing in bandits from West Africa to destabilize the current administration, he described these actions as deliberate attempts to harm the nation for political gain.
He stated that sponsoring criminals to attack citizens only backfires, those who create insecurity ultimately damage themselves along with the country.
Dr. Uche called on leaders and citizens to prioritize the nation over political ambitions, he said that peace can only return if Nigerians reject violence as a political weapon.
He warned that importing criminals and using them for political ends undermines democracy and disrupts everyday life, the Prelate urged leaders to act responsibly and protect the people rather than exploiting insecurity for personal advantage.
”During former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration insecurity was rampant because some people wanted him out. Currently, some people are importing bandits from West Africa to ensure the current administration is also ruined,” he said.
