Delta State public and private primary and secondary schools will resume for the 2026/2027 academic session on Monday, September 14, 2026, following the release of the provisional school calendar by the state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The calendar also directs principals, head teachers and teaching and non-teaching staff to resume between September 7 and 11 for meetings, admissions and other preparations for the new session.
Boarding students are expected to return to school on Sunday, September 13.
According to the calendar, the first term will run from September 14 to December 18, with a total of 65 school days. The first half of the term will end on October 23, while the mandatory mid-term PTA meeting will hold from October 26 to 30.
Teaching will resume for the second half of the term on November 2 and continue until December 18.
First-term examinations have been fixed for December 14 to 18, while the School Term Achievement Review, STAR, Day and mandatory School-Based Management Committee, SBMC, meeting will hold on the last day of the term.
For the second term, boarding students will resume on January 10, 2027, while academic activities will begin on January 11.
The term will run for 49 school days, with the first half ending on February 12. A mid-term break will follow from February 15 to 19 before teaching resumes on February 22.
The third term will begin on April 19, 2027, with boarding students returning a day earlier on April 18. The first half will run until May 28, followed by a mid-term break from May 31 to June 4.
The second half will begin on June 7 and end on July 16, while examinations will hold from July 19 to 23. The third-term holiday will commence on July 26.
The Ministry also fixed the Cognitive/Placement Examination for Saturday, May 22, 2027, while the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, will hold from May 31 to June 4.
The calendar makes PTA meetings and STAR activities mandatory, with the Ministry directing all public and private schools to comply strictly with the approved dates.
For parents and guardians, the release of the calendar provides an early opportunity to prepare for school fees, uniforms, books, transportation and other expenses ahead of the new session.
The Ministry added that public holidays declared by the Federal Government during the session would be observed, while schools operating international curricula or seeking to close outside the approved dates must obtain official approval.
