By-election
The Delta State Government has imposed a 12-hour movement restriction in Udu Local Government Area ahead of Saturday’s State Constituency by-election.
The restriction will run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to a statement issued on Thursday.
The statement was signed by Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information.
Aniagwu said the measure was introduced to facilitate a successful conduct of the Udu State Constituency by-election.
He said the restriction was also aimed at ensuring a safe, peaceful and orderly electoral environment throughout the exercise.
According to him, the measure will help protect voters and sensitive electoral materials during the election.
“The restriction is to allow for a successful conduct of the Udu State Constituency by-election,” he said.
The commissioner urged residents and members of the public in Udu to comply with the restriction throughout the election period.
He, however, said essential workers and authorised personnel performing election-related duties would be exempted from the restriction.
Accredited election observers, media personnel, security operatives, emergency responders and essential service providers were also exempted.
Aniagwu urged residents to cooperate with the authorities and comply with other lawful measures introduced for the election.
He said compliance would contribute to a peaceful, orderly and safe electoral process across the local government area.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled the Udu State Constituency by-election for Saturday as part of legislative by-elections nationwide.
Other legislative by-elections are scheduled to hold across Delta, Gombe, Bauchi and Kano states.
Aniagwu urged Udu residents to cooperate with security agencies and other authorities throughout the electoral process. (NAN)
