The Delta State Police Command has arrested 81 suspected criminals, recovered large quantities of suspected illicit drugs and impounded five vehicles during an intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts and flashpoints across Asaba metropolis.
The operation, carried out on July 24, 2026, targeted identified criminal black spots as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen public safety across the state.
The raid was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, alongside tactical teams, following credible intelligence on criminal activities in the area.
Police said the operation resulted in the arrest of 81 suspects, comprising 50 males and 31 females, over alleged offences including the sale and possession of suspected illicit drugs and operating an illegal checkpoint at the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge.
Items recovered from the suspects included large quantities of Tramadol and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The Command also impounded five vehicles for various offences, including allegedly operating an unauthorized taxi park at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road and facilitating the sale and distribution of suspected illicit drugs.
Police said all the suspects and exhibits remain in custody while investigations continue to determine the extent of their involvement and possible prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention, warning criminals to abandon unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the operation underscores the Command’s resolve to sustain raids on criminal hideouts and strengthen security across Delta State.
