Dele Momodu: Atiku would have been prosecuted if he were corrupt

Dele Momodu, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has defended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against allegations of corruption.

Momodu made the remarks on Monday night during an X Space session titled “Avrilsspace: The Electoral Mathematics for 2027.”

He said if Atiku had been corrupt, he would have faced prosecution under ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, or President Bola Tinubu.

“There is nothing under the sun that has not been written about Alhaji Atiku Abubakar but I can tell you that they have not been substantiated,” Momodu said.

“Even the bloody fight between him and his former boss, Obasanjo; you could see that if indeed Atiku was as bad as they claimed, there is no way he would not have been tried at that time by his or thereafter by Yar’Adua or Jonathan or Buhari or even now by Tinubu.

“So if anybody knows anywhere where Atiku has been indicted for stealing public property, sharing public properties to his friends and cronies they should please tell us.”

Momodu described Atiku as a consummate democrat who does not tolerate thuggery or militancy in his circle.

“My fascination for him increased after he became the Director of Strategic Communications from 2022 to 2023 and I saw the way he ran his office, he’s a seasoned administrator, a consummate democrat, he allows everybody the same,” Momodu said.

“You will never go to Atiku’s house and find people wailing around, whether they are thugs, militants or anything. He is such a cosmopolitan gentleman and this has often worked against him but people say this man is a Lagos boy.”

Momodu also challenged anyone with evidence of Atiku’s wrongdoing to present it to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), or Code of Conduct Tribunal.
